We arrived at night and were the only guests. There were bats around, so we had to keep the doors closed.

The upper floor of the main building provided several rooms for guests (we, however, had been given two guest cottages in the garden). In spite of several bulbs the rooms looked exceptionally gloomy. Pictures on the walls showed old paintings of pale people, supposedly dead. On the stairs, we discovered a collection of very pointed metal tools hanging on the wall. Just at this very moment, the lights went out. There was a power failure (we should get used to them) and a bat flying nearby scared us even more.

Well, we survived. Candles were lit, and soon electricity came back.
